Start with your exact examination and year
This page compares SSC Combined Hindi Translators (CHT) 2026, UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 and NEET (UG) 2026. It does not set rules for every SSC or UPSC examination, or for 2027 applications. Read the current notice, any later correction, and the instructions in the application portal before preparing a file.
Live capture is a separate requirement. A saved JPG, a passport-style crop or a 20KB file cannot replace an official live-camera step.
Official photo and signature comparison
| Examination | Photo capture | Saved-image requirements | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| SSC CHT 2026 | Live photograph through the official application workflow | Signature: JPG/JPEG, 10–20KB. The notice contains different signature dimensions in its main text and an annexure; confirm dimensions through the portal or SSC. | SSC notice, printed page 12 and Annexure V |
| UPSC CSE 2026 | Uploaded photograph plus live photograph in the Common Application Form | Sign three times, one below another, in black ink on plain white paper. The notice directs applicants to portal upload instructions for size and format; no numeric file-size limit is verified here. | UPSC notice, page 2, Notes 2–3 |
| NEET (UG) 2026 | Live photograph plus a recent passport-size image | Photo: JPG/JPEG, 10–200KB. Signature: JPG/JPEG, 10–100KB. The uploaded photo must meet the composition and recency rules in the bulletin. | NTA bulletin, printed pages 14 and 16–17 |
SSC: a signature limit is not a photo limit
The CHT 2026 notice requires a live photograph. Its main instructions give a 10–20KB JPG/JPEG signature limit and approximately 6 × 2cm dimensions; Annexure V instead refers to approximately 4 × 2cm. Because those dimension statements differ, this guide does not turn either into a universal preset. Ask SSC or follow clarified instructions in the active portal. Do not present a 20KB saved photo as the required live photograph.
Read the SSC CHT 2026 notice, particularly printed pages 12, 29 and 48. Other SSC notices may differ.
UPSC: upload and live photo are separate steps
The CSE 2026 notice requires a photograph upload and live capture while completing the CAF. It also specifies a sheet with three signatures, arranged vertically, using black ink on white paper. For upload specifications, it refers to the Photos and Signature instructions in the official portal.
This guide does not reuse older search snippets as current size limits: older upload-instruction PDFs could not be retrieved during this check. Read the 2026 notice and use the official application portal for the current file-size and format instructions.
NEET: prepare the correct image for each field
The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin specifies a recent passport-size JPG/JPEG photograph of 10–200KB, a white background and approximately 80% face coverage including ears. It also requires live capture. The saved photo must have been taken after 1 January 2026; the signature range is separately specified as 10–100KB.
The bulletin also discusses physical postcard photographs for later examination processes. Do not confuse those print requirements with an upload field. Consult Chapter 3 of the official NTA bulletin and later notices on the NEET website.
Which TURUBA tool should you use?
- Check the required operation. Use the official portal for live capture. Use a file-preparation tool only for a field that accepts a saved file.
- Check shape and pixels. The photo crop and resize tool exports pixels; it does not certify physical print dimensions, face coverage or identity.
- Check the allowed size range. The image compressor offers 20KB, 50KB and 100KB targets. A target is not an exact-size promise. Avoid unnecessary compression when a clear existing image already meets the field's limits.
- Open the downloaded result. Read fine details, check its actual byte count and dimensions, and then inspect the application preview. A file below a maximum can still be below a required minimum.
The focused 20KB compression page explains that the tool uses 1KB = 1024 bytes. A portal may interpret its KB boundary differently. Leave a sensible margin within the permitted range rather than assuming a displayed 20KB is valid everywhere.

Exam photo questions
Can I use a compressed photo instead of live capture?
No. Where the official portal requires live capture, use its camera workflow. An edited or compressed saved photograph does not replace that step.
Are all SSC, UPSC and NEET photos required to be 20KB?
No. Requirements differ by examination, year and document type. A photograph, signature and certificate can each have a different limit.
Are these rules for the next application cycle?
No. This comparison covers the named 2026 documents, checked on 26 October 2026. Use the relevant new notice for a later application cycle.
Does TURUBA certify that my file will be accepted?
No. The official application portal decides acceptance. Our tools can prepare files but do not certify identity, photograph composition or application compliance.
